Il racconto segue gli anni difficili dell’esilio e l’incontro con la marcia, disciplina che diventa il centro della sua rinascita personale e sportiva.
Determinante il ruolo dell’allenatore Giuseppe Malaspina, ex marciatore che intuisce subito il talento di Pamich. Tra i due nasce un rapporto fatto di disciplina, fiducia e sacrificio, decisivo nella crescita dell’atleta dentro e fuori dalla pista.
La storia culmina con il trionfo olimpico di Abdon Pamich nella 50 km di marcia ai Olimpiadi di Tokyo 1964, vittoria che diventa simbolo di riscatto, memoria e identità ritrovata.
Il film è andato in onda su Rai 1 il 10 febbraio 2026, in occasione del Giorno del Ricordo.
The film “The Race Walker – The True Story of Abdon Pamich” tells the life of Abdon Pamich, one of the greatest champions in Italian race walking. Born in Rijeka, after the war he was forced to leave his homeland and start over as a refugee in Italy.
The story follows the difficult years of exile and his encounter with race walking, the discipline that became the center of his personal and sporting rebirth.
A key role is played by coach Giuseppe Malaspina, a former race walker who immediately recognized Pamich’s talent. Between them grew a relationship built on discipline, trust and sacrifice, crucial to the athlete’s development both on and off the track.
The story reaches its peak with Abdon Pamich’s Olympic triumph in the 50 km race walk at the 1964 Summer Olympics, a victory that became a symbol of redemption, memory and regained identity.
The film was broadcast on Rai 1 on February 10, during the Day of Remembrance.
